Singapore and Aung San Suu Kyi : The New Yorker

The Nobel laureate was thoughtful even as she took a subtle swipe at Singapore.

And many Singaporeans wouldn’t disagree with her, because they experience the ugly side of work-orientedness and materialism first-hand.

I also appreciate that the article (read the link) was fair enough to share both Singapore and Burma’s positions on several world rankings.

But even rankings aside, the one thing unmentionable during her visit and other subsequent write-ups is that there is something for countries that experience the tragedy of sectarian violence and the oppression of minorities to learn from imperfect perfect Singapore.
