Had to say this several times this past fortnight.
(1) Explain before exemplifying. Your topic sentence is likely to make a claim. The reader/marker is likely going to ask “Why do you make this claim?” So it makes sense to attend to this natural question first – before illustrating.
(2) Practise deciding which terms in the question require interpretation. Practise interpretation for several questions (of different question types). Practise crafting introductions that include these interpretations, if you do not think you need to practise entire essays.
(3) If alternative structures confuse and restrict you, retreat to the most basic format. Then, focus on quality ideas, varied points of view and word choice.
