When does the good outweigh the bad? When are the benefits considered more than the problems ?
When do you call one party more responsible than another party ?
Here are just some of the possible guidelines that can help you break a tie that you see when you plan your essay :
(1) The good outweighs the bad when there are ways to alleviate problems that arise, so we can enjoy more of the benefits while facing fewer problems.
(2) The bad outweighs the good when the benefits are enjoyed by a limited group, who could then use such leverage to get more – without helping others, or even, at the expense of others.
(3) The bad outweighs the good if we benefit in the near future, but suffer grave consequences in the more distant future, especially threats to our survival.
(4) The good outweighs the bad when enduring values or outcomes prevail in the long run even if it does not seem like there is much gain at the moment
(5)The party involved can only be made responsible for whatever is within its sphere of influence.
(Note : In sum, it’s not just about saying that benefits outnumber the problems.)
