SMRT train system breakdown 2011

Points :

Peak hour breakdown trains down

thousands of passengers stranded; stuck in tunnel
broken window – ventilation
fainting

SMRT not prepared for situation /
evacuation procedures & back-up plan

3 times within a week

blame game ensues – as usual

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew tests back-up system,
and find faults

overcrowding

Are Singaporeans whiners ?

Is it fair to compare with other countries ?

Who’s in the hotseat ?
Ms Saw Phaik Hwa President &
CEO SMRT Corporation Ltd,
credited with boosting profits tremendously

Totally unneeded gaffes that make good fodder for GP :
– íncome opportunity message to cabbies
– MP Saw Han Thong highlighting the substandard English of Malay & Indian train workers
– train system failure shortly follows hike in cab fares
